All sorts of people are surf lifesavers. They come from all walks of life, in all shapes and sizes and with all abilities. Surf Life Saving is built on volunteers who love the beach and their community, are looking for fun, friendship, a healthy lifestyle and want new skills and challenges. You don’t even have to be a super fit swimmer! Nor do you have to get your toes wet if you don’t want to. As long as you have a positive attitude, you’ve got what it takes.
You might choose any number of ways to be involved. For the young, there’s Nippers, youth development programs, awards and personal development opportunities. For the young-at-heart, there’s a huge array of roles from patrolling, coaching, officiating, surf sports, first aid, committee member, age manager, fundraising, radio operator, trainers and assessor, drone operators and rescue boat drivers.

IN THE WATER
Join more than 20,000 volunteer surf lifesavers in NSW by gaining your Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion, giving you lifelong skills in surf awareness, rescue techniques, and CPR. For family-based fun, nippers is a great way for children to enjoy and learn about the beach. There’s even the option to support nippers as a group leader! If you want to improve your skills and fitness, why not try competing in the water – from board paddling and swimming, there’s something for you to enjoy!

ON THE SAND
If being in the water is not your thing, there is still a place for you! You can learn to save lives as a First Aider on the beach or join our eyes in the sky to patrol the water as a UAV operator or pilot. If you’re committed to safeguarding children and young people, then get involved in the delivery of nippers and help support the development of our youngest members. If you want to help others achieve their sporting goals on the sand, you can become a coach, official or carnival judge.
